We are not an island, but anchored in the midst of society: and that is why we make our contribution to solving the global challenge of climate change. After all, companies in the manufacturing sector have particularly great potential to combat this issue – by reducing emissions and modernizing processes, machinery and plants.

OUR CO₂ FOOTPRINT

Analysed according to DIN EN 16247-1

We commissioned an energy analysis for our company in accordance with DIN EN 16247-1 in 2019. This analysis covered the current state of affairs, our energy balance, opportunities for improving our energy efficiency and suitable measures for CO₂ emission reductions along with implementation planning considering any available government support programs. The corresponding applications were submitted and measures are implemented as soon as their funding has been approved.

efficiency measures

We have been taking steps to improve our energy efficiency for years – for both economic and environmental reasons. We have already implemented various concrete measures to effectively reduce both our environmental impact and our costs. Some examples:

HEAT RECOVERY

We reuse the heat from the air we extract from our production hall to heat other rooms: for this purpose, we feed its thermal energy back into the company's energy cycle via heat exchangers. We also recover heat generated by production systems and in production processes . And even our air compressor is fitted with a heat exchanger so we can make good use of its waste heat.

Energy-efficient light sources

We have successively replaced conventional light bulbs with energy-saving LED light sources or other more sensible lighting systems .

Compressed air efficiency

We have also taken a closer look at our use of compressed air as this is responsible for a large chunk of our energy consumption: we now consistently and regularly check our compressed air system for leaks in order to minimize losses within the system. We have switched to strictly demand-based compressed air generation in order to reduce our electricity consumption.

Oil reconditioning

The resource-conserving use of cooling lubricants makes an important contribution to reducing both our environmental impact and costs: centrifuging chips to remove any oil residues is the first step, and oil reconditioning by way of filtration and separation is another, making sure that cooling lubricants can be used in production several times over.

Making use of innovations

We regularly replace electrically powered devices and machinery with more recent and energy-efficient models and generally rely on new technology wherever this promises improved performance and efficiency. This also includes our extensively modernized IT system with server, network and workstations.

Being consistent

Even seemingly small contributions can make a great difference: for example, we have been implementing consistent shutdown management procedures in productionfor years in order to save electricity. In addition, we rely on the reuse of packaging materialto keep these raw materials in the utilization cycle rather than throwing them out.

Regenerative energy

In-house electricity production with a photovoltaic system

We have had our own photovoltaic system since 2008, which makes a significant contribution to covering our electricity requirements. Initially designed to deliver an output of 30 kW/h from the roof of our production hall, we expanded the system to a peak output of 70 kW/h in 2011. Although this does not cover our entire electricity consumption, it allows us to generate a significant share of our base load.

We cover any additional electricity requirements through electricity supply contracts with a mixture of 'green' electricity sources.

Creating awareness

Workforce awareness

For us, resource conservation is not something the boss orders, but a team effort:

  • We provide regular training on the proper use of resources.
  • We focus on avoiding and separating waste.
  • We exclusively use reusable tableware.
  • We check whether business trips can be replaced by telephone calls or video conferences.
  • We only print documents when it cannot be avoided.
  • We make sure our rooms are properly ventilated and not excessively heated.
Climate protection

in-house compensation and CO2 emission reductions

Unfortunately, we will not be able to manage without any CO2 emissions at all. However, we are taking active efforts to compensate for the actual emissions we cause: for example, we plant trees in all the right places across our entire company premises – so that they may live long, grow tall and strong, and absorb as much CO2 as possible. In addition, increasingly use electric company vehicles and job bikes.
